Intending to cruise along the South Cornish coast next week, and I'm wondering how crowded/busy some of the harbours are at this time? Intend to visit Polperro, Fowey and Mevagissey before returning to the Tamar. Anyone been visiting the area lately please?

Thanks in advance.

Geoff

I wouldn’t recommend trying to navigate to the Tamar river at Horsebridge to experience the “harbour“ as shown in the above suggested webcam image. I can recommend the pub, it’s my local, but the river is a tad inaccessible by boat, except by canoe maybe....

We passed that way about 4 weeks ago, Mevagissey was no problem the 5 trot moorings on the left of the harbour were never full (can take 8 boats) the most we saw was 4 + 1 raft. Fowey never a problem as they have lots of space, Polperro absolute Nightmare, there was space but the local fishing and tripper boats steam through the moorings at breakneck speed making it very unpleasant after trying it for a few hours we moved down the cost and anchored. Don’t know about the Tamar we missed that this year.

Thank you all for your responses and the webcam links. Yes, Polperro can be busy with tripper boats, but by the time we get there it should be less so. Mevagissey looks OK, and we are meeting up with friends who live there. Fowey is fine, 'just call when you arrive', they said. Should be plenty of room for a 22 footer. Think we might be doing a bit of motoring due to fickle Easterly-ish winds.

We're Back! Just an update. Firstly, the Polperro News/Fore St Store webcam is great, thank you. Monday we saw the harbour was full of tripper boats (not too good), but we got in there Tuesday and were on our own on the moorings. Not a tripper boat in site. (£15) Next was Mevagissey, and we were the only boat on the moorings! Never seen it like that before. (£20). and then Fowey on the way home. Plenty of moorings (£14 for us), but the Pont Pill pontoons were jammed full of Mobo's, so we picked up a buoy, which was great as it was quiet and very settled. By evening, the harbour was getting rather full. We motored all the way, both ways as there was very little wind, and it was on the nose all the way back to the Tamar. Great 4 days away, with Dolphins attacking us in Whitsand Bay!
