Been in a bucket of persil for days -non-bio - didn't have any bio. No good.

Too much weed at moment to stick in washing machine.

Is it a case of letting them dry, scraping weed off and then into machine?

thanks

Assuming that its weed grown in seawater, then its now dead but still mechanically attached. How about a small scrubbing brush under a running tap outside. A VERY light application of a pressure washer will do it, but its a tedious job aiming the thing at rope that rolls around all the time and you can damage the rope very easily if you are careless.

If its fresh water weed its probably feeling poorly from the Persil but might be still alive.
Scrub it off - as above.

You wear a pair of boots & roll the rope under your foot taking care not to aim the washer at your bare legs( they can strip skin). Every year I have to wash about 5-10no 5 metre long 25mm multiplat mooring ropes. Never noticed any damage yet. Must admit never used it on braid. I do it because i am the clerk to the local mooring committee

By the way I have some mooring sites --- just google " st Lawrence Fairway Committee"
Its a new site so does not work on yahoo etc yet

Sorry!, could not help slipping in the add!:o

I agree with the technique (and boots!) but I suspect that the OP doesn't have the large size lines you are dealing with as a mooring clerk. He talks about the lines being in a bucket and my mind immediately jumped to braid line. Pressure washers don't do braid line any good if they are used too aggressively. You end up with a very hairy line...

Must admit I have only used cleats and posts for similar, if a rope is used the weed and dirt soon falls out...
Then I guess those devices might be a bit kinder...

Always done mine with hypochlorite failing that a bucket of cheap bleach then rinse in fresh water :)

Chlorine bleach is not recommended on synthetic fabrics so do with caution and well diluted . It does not take a lot to kill the algae.
