How busy is the beach at Frinton likely to be in this wonderful weather?

Sorry: not boat related at all: just after some inside knowledge.

I've seen horrible, hellish, pics of the packed beaches at places like Southend, Brighton and Bournemouth.

Does Frinton tend to get similarly packed?

Not massively - but it's a huge stretch of beach so as long as everyone doesn't try to occupy the same section you should find space. The beach runs from Clacton, through / past Frinton all the way to Walton and it's sectioned off by breakwaters.

Psst .................

Don't tell everyone how fantastic the Essex coast and beaches can be.

Most think Essex is just down town London.;)

When the first ease in lockdown happened we drove to Clacton a few times as the walk along the promenade by the beach was pleasant... It's got worse and worse, and with afternoon high tides, I suspect people will get pushed closer together. Observation about Frinton; a couple of weeks ago I was out on the motorbike and came up to the Frinton Crossing gates mini roundabout. The queues looking to turn into Frinton where huge... It took about 10 mins to get across the roundabout

Thank for that really helpful reply.

I know the coast from the sea, but I'm nervous of meeting a few family members when we're all travelling by car.

Hey, I'm an Essex boy, having lived here since the late fifties.

OK, I've in lived several other locations, too, at different times over the years, but I do know many bits very well.

So your secret is safe in my hands!

Trouble is, I know the Essex coast better from the water, than I do as a car traveller, having sailed and raced from the Crouch since the mid-60's.

So I'm a tad nervous of how it might be visiting Frinton today by car, for a small family get together.

Hmmmmm .....thanks for that, which tends to confirm my fears.

Maybe I'll be anti-social, and go for a long run along the Crouch by myself.

I need to decide by mid-day!

I think today a run along the Crouch is the best option. Unless you fancied queuing along the A12 from Colchester and all along the A120 ?
I just don't get why EVERYONE feels they have to go the beach with the present situation.

I, sort of, half-wimped out of Frinton.

Jos and I went for a very enjoyable, albeit socially distanced, family lunch in Kelvedon.

The rest of the family then bravely set off for Frinton, whilst we headed back for the calm of Burnham.

Now ..... I think I can help you understand, at least in part, their motivations. There seemed to me to be 3 main determinents:

1) they're in their thirties, we're in our 60's

2) they have a 3 year old who loves sunny, sandy beaches

3) they're neither sailors nor runners, so traffic jams don't seem to be so depressing for them, as they are for us.

I'll be heading out for my long run any minute now.

Anyway, thanks again, to the East Coast team (including for one very warm-hearted pm).

All that is needed is a study of the map. I have been going from Wivenhoe to Titchmarsh regularly, including today. I used an alternative route and met very little traffic, going past Little Clacton and across the countryside. You need to avoid going anywhere near the Frating roundabout.

In the local paper today, the Frinton peeps are up in arms at all the rubbish dumped by visitors and the parking including obstructing the Ambulance spaces on the Greesward,
