I am interested in a Hout Bay 33 which I intend to use for blue water cruising. If anyone out there has any comments about this model - good or bad - I'd like to hear from you. Thanks, Tim

I am an old friend of the Cape Town based designer Dudley Dix (his Cape Cutter 19 was recently reviewed in Yachting Monthly and in PBO) so naturally would be biased having sailed with him for many thousands of miles on other boats of his design. I suggest you contact him direct and he will probably offer you introduce you to other owners for an unbiased view. Why not check out his web site for his review plus links etc. www.dixdesign.com and email details

On the Hout Bay 33 it was a boat I would have considered buying and in fact Dudley did suggest it as a boat suitable for my needs. Strong, easily handled shorthanded and a good sailing boat. ... I ended up buying a Nic 35
