Just been to see the boat tonight, first time in 2mths. Thought i'd better check everything is ok before a couple of people view it this Saturday.
Engine started first time and everything was ok, apart from the hour meter on the VP Rev counter didn't come on.
The rev counter seems to work ok, but the hr display is empty.
Is there any easy solution to this problem?

Cheers

Alistair.

Take it home and leave it in the airing cupboard!

Volvo instruments can't take the damp /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

First one, now both my hour meters have gone blank. I'll relocate them both to the airing cupboard this winter, and see what happens next spring before spending yet more bucks.

I'm fairly certain that I too could design an electronic instrument that stopped working in damp conditions. Any job offers, VDO ?

I have one digital hour meter and one analogue meter. Never bothered with the digital one it only displays anything rarely.(Tacho ok) Stupid as the digital one must be the newer replacement. Shows the use of this forum though, I assumed it was lack of input not just a display problem. I will now try drying it out. It is in a "protected position on the boat , tucked under the screen (Targa 33) so not exposed in the way a flybridge installation would be. Not very impressive.

Buy a 12v hour counter and connect to to the engine switch. will count whenever the engine is turned on. About £15

Yep both mine do the same and their only 3 years old, the hour reading is not lost, but its only displayed when the sun is shining /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif These must be the only electronic bits on the entire engines and it seems like Volvo have fitted these for years and never come up with fix. Wouldn't give me much confidence in buying a Volvo EDC system for instance.

I've got the opposite problem with one rev counter. Revs display sporadically but hour meter ticks round relentlessly. I assumed it was the damp. Made me glad my engine management sytem is mechanical.

No sorry i hadn't seen that thread.
Thanks guys for all the answers, my only concern is, i don't have time to take it home and dry it out before the boat is viewed on Saturday, does the panel think it would be ok if i put a hairdryer on it for a few minutes, while its still in situ??

Cheers

Alistair.

Had the same problem just last week. The problem was the display and damp..it came on eventually with the correct run time. Warm it up a bit!

You should have background light in it. Leave it on for a few hours and it will dry out becouse of the heat coming from the small bulb.
