Just back from a few day on what I think is probably the most beautiful island in S. Brittany.

However avoid the SE promintory. The campers have turned the coastal paths into a continuous latrine.

I moored off the NW corner (Portz Ley) which is very wild and beautiful. The west facing cove (Treach er Beniguet) is probably the nicest bay on the island but not in westerly wind situations.

Isn't it great. We spent a week there last July anchored in the big sandy bay (can't remember the name)- kids wouldn't let me leave. You're right about the campers - we stayed up at the other end of the beach where it was much quieter and its only a short walk to the village.

Treach ar selous from memory .. I just remember a tent using a 'No camping sauvage' sign as a peg for its guy ropes.

When we were there it wasnt at all uncivilised (mid August) - maybe we were just lucky. They were also having difficulty with ferries due to the in place operator going belly up - so maybe they were particularly quiet. It really is one of my all time favourites, but best mid week as it's too convenient for the weekenders from Quiberon, La Trinite, Morbihan etc.

Treac'h er Salus is t'other side of the campers loos. Houat is my favourite place of all, even have a big aerial piccy hanging in my office. On our way too, leaving Poole Wednesday weather permitting, can't wait to leave the Poole jetskis behind...

We have to go in August when it's really busy but still love it. Had withdrawal symptoms last couple of winters so went back by car between Xmas & New Year to play golf.

Try Hoedic while you are there. I can especially recommend the restaurant at the hotel. One of the best for seafood in the area IMHO.

Thanks, haven't been over there for a couple of years so we'll give it a try. The Cafe on Glenans that turns into a restaurant at night is a favourite too for lobster, I believe the storage tanks there are for Paris restaurants so we get to pick ours before you do!
