Yes I know it's the boat forum but I've asked this question to computer forums, hotmail who say its AOL's problem and AOL who say call your PC vendor. So you are my last resort for common sence (yes it's got that desperate!)
I've recently got AOL Broadband which is wizzo fast for everything except hotmail (where some family members have accounts) occasionally I get on, but most of the time I wait and wait until I get a "The page cannot be displayed" However if I sign out and sign back in on the old dial up 'narrow' band I can get hotmail every time.....what's going on??

what\'s the difference between Herpes and AOL?

Nothing, you can't get rid of either of them.

I use Hotmail (but not AOL) and can get Hotmail using three different methods.....

1) By logging on to www.hotmail.com
2) Through Outlook express
3) Through Windows messenger.

1) sounds unreliable for you. Have you tried 2) and 3)?

That may be the case.....try the following http://www.dslreports.com/faq/5975 which describes the problem and what to do about it.

Though I can't prove it, and can possibly be sued for saying it, I feel sure, from personal experience, that the various providers are somehow screwing with access to facilities run by their competitors.
While having no trouble accessing non-competeing sites I've often found it difficult to access sites run by competitors of the ISP I'm using.
I'm sure they will say this is coincidental...hard to believe over time.

Re: what\'s the difference between Herpes and AOL?

Thanks for your suggestion
I went through the procedure found that my MTU was set too high at 1472, though pinging this was tested ok at 1372. (At this stage I'm getting really confident that we are on the right track) the reset my MYU using DrTCP and....
I still can't get hotmail
I can't believe that I have written the above....I don't really know what I'm doing..just following instructions
thanks
David

You mean you actually did all that? I just thought it looked like an interesting site! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

seriously though, if that didn't work, I have absolutely no idea what the problem is

Be warned!! Hotmail and AOL Broadband

I use NTL and recently used the word 'lonely' in a personal e-mail to a friend. Within the hour I had four lots of 'spam' offering 'services' to 'lonley' people - coincidence - I wonder. I then sent another with all sorts of 'nasty' words, like
he-who-they can't catch, things that go bang, things that go Pop! and a certain outfit whose former C-in-C is now a MP.

Can't wait for the spooks to arrive

Well I use BT Btoadband both at home and at work. I also use hotmail at both and never have a problem. Collegues frequently send quite large files using the standard hotmail setup, but I can't say I've ever had a problem - - - Except years ago when I used to use compuserve on a 56k modem! Maybe AOL are screwing the competion!
