Just wanted to recount an experience I had last week which may be of interest to those of you who use hotels on a regular basis. The hotel concerned is the Malmaison in Birmingham. Part of a chain I must have spent several thousands of pounds with over the years but one that has seen my last penny.
I made a reservation via their website and confirmed on the day of travel by 'phone. My last meeting finished at 10.30pm and I arrived at the hotel at 11.15pm - tired and hungry. The receptionist had my room card and key ready BUT then announced there was no room at the inn.
Toys were thrown a long way out of the pram until they agreed to find me alternative accomodation. This turned out to be the Hilton at the NEC - some 30 minutes drive away!
Over-hearing the conversation between the 2 hotels I became aware that the Malmaison had pre- booked 3 rooms - presumably to cater for their own over booking.
I finally ate at 12.30am and got to bed at 1.00am'ish - a nice end to a very long day.
I post this story just for info' and leave it to you to decide whether or not you have the confidence to use the Malmaison chain of hotels in future.
