Hot water fittings

Hi All,

I am fitting hot water to my boat. I have all the kit needed bar the hose tails for the hot water take off and return. However, all the talk on here about underwater fittings has got me thinking - do I need to get bronze or dzr hose tails given that they will be screwed into the jacket with salt water running through them. I want to avoid them corroding off in the fitting I guess!

Any help appreciated. And if bronze or dzr are advised, any advice on a source of 3/8 and 1/2 fittings would be great - they seem to be like hens teeth!

Engine dealers should have the correct fittings.

We may need a little more information. I take it from your question that this is a raw water cooled engine and that you will be circulating seawater through your calorifier coil? If so then yes, perhaps bronze or dzr hose tails would have a longer life, but there are thousands of installations that have only brass, with no big problems. The worst that is going to happen is a leak of coolant, unlikely to cause any major incidents. Many fittings on the engine may be brass, for example the thermostat, threaded plugs, etc on a Bukh, but they seem to go on for decades.

ASAP are usually a good source of bronze and dzr fittings.

Thanks. Yes, it is a raw water cooled engine - a Bukh - so doing the installation as per your excellent article! I'll get in touch with ASAP - they don't seem to have exactly what I need but the biggest range to hopefully they can help.
