Spent a very pleasant evening with the hot airgun and scraper removing a few acres of olde varnish.Something very satisfying about the smell of hot mahogany and paint.
A few new coats of Sikkens tomorrow and shiney shiny handrails.

.....removing a few acres.....

Is that some sort of Mudway patois for 'a few square inches' ? You don't call those pathetic strips of wood 'handrails. do you ??

Next time you venture up to the sophisticated centrale of the Bray Riviera I will show you handrails to die for - real teak taffrails, not little mahogany make-believers :D

"on pure turps and varnish ? "

M,mm.......a nice glass of that, properly chilled, with a cherry makes any day complete.:)

"Bray Riviera" .......

"You can always tell the old river hand by the way in which he stretches himself out upon the cushions at the bottom of the boat, and encourages the rowers by telling them anecdotes about the marvellous feats he performed last season." !

Mix pure turpentine in with your varnish and apply . Flat back with wet and dry and repeat untill it looks like a mirror and then do it some more .

(Revoltingly) fantastic, you should be around during Henley week parading up and down, or better during the Trad Rally.

Having conquered wood and finishes, your next task is towards ropework - The eye on that line is not up to standards....

(Got to have something to carp about innit???)

All in the best possible taste, you understand.

Im out to pull hot chicks mate not have old fellas chatting for 15 hours about the best knot for a cleat :D Tuck the rope into it self and that holds as fast as any knot , comes out fast aswell so no rope dirty poo on my varnish :p

Argh....

"Having conquered wood and finishes, your next task is towards ropework - The eye on that line is not up to standards."

Now my olde eyes are not up to much, but one hopes that is NOT a bit of black insulating tape instead of a proper bit of whipping cord on the end of that rope ???????????

yup :p But that rope is the working rope . I have nice black ones for best .
That trip out was to test if she floated , i even took a bouyancy aid with me ....

I used to have working lines and a set of best black lines just for show. Unfortunately my best black lines are now disgraceful. I bet even Pherans underpants are cleaner (well that's probably not possible)
