Hot Air Heaters

The older ones required a good battery voltage to fire up. I always run the engine other wise it will not start and even then it make take 2 goes. My unit is 25years old.

If there is a diesel pump, check the voltage at the pump when the fan first starts. if it is too low, due to the current draw on the glow plug, it will not pump diesel hence it shuts down again. You should be able to hear the pump click, though if its too near the engine you might not.

Other things to check: Make sure all wiring contacts are clean. - dirt = voltage drop. If the glowplug is working, then there will be an appreciable drop in battery voltage.
