Aztec. Thanks for the info. Actually the reason I ask is that the hose from my toilet outlet to my holding tank is no less than twelve feet long, and I want to know how much clear water is going into the tank before the poop reaches it. Boat design problem.
Cheers
p.s. it might be late saturday night for you but it is only early afternoon here on the Pacific coast of Canada. We are eight hours behind you.
Uh-0h....12' from head to holding tank is WAY too far...no one will flush long enough to move bowl contents from the head to the tank...there'll always be waste left sitting in the hose to permeate it. 6' is the optimal distance...8' is pushing it...10' is the absolutely maximum--and that's only if the head is only used by the owners who know how long to flush.
That's the bad news. The good news is, you don't have to fill up your holding tank with flush water to clear the head discharge hose. Any marine toilet that's working anywhere near factory specs will move bowl contents at least 6' in the dry mode. So it's only necessary to use flush water to wet the bowl ahead of use and to rinse the bowl and head disccharge hose after use.

I am having a bit of difficulty with your formula AZTEC, volume is Pi times diameter squared divided by 4 x length. If all the dimensions are in cm. then the volume will be in cubic cm [cc] divide this by 1000 and volume will be in litres = 3.14 x diameter squared divided by 1000 litres. IMHO this does not come to 8 times diameter x length x 10000 litres?
However, to progress with this problem, Pi times diam squared divided by 4 times length all in inches gives cubic inches volume, and about 277.25 cu inches is 1 imperial gallon. Thus a 12 ft hose would hold about 254 cu inches, about a bit under 1 gallon, 6 ft hose .5 of a gallon etc. Good luck with your calculations of the business.
I think Aztec was just having fun with his formula. Thanks for your input, Jollyjacktar, this explains why my holding tank gets full very rapidly.
I also appreciate the note from HeadMistress, who is well known for her knowledge on this subject on this side of the pond.
