Horrors hidden under double diagonal\'s surface

I've been busy dismantling the port side of my 41ft osbourne to renew the hull planking. I've found lots of shockers hidden away inside and thought it might be of interest.
This side was even worse than the starboard side which I did last summer. The only thing thats saved the old girl is that there is a small air gap between the hull and the stations so that whilst the hull was busy rotting away this gap protected the stations. Several of the stations have had to be repaired but luckily there was enough left so I didn't lose the lines of the hull

Certainly looks a bit of a shocker alan!

Im sure you'll sort it out though! You can always use a tick stick template of the other side, rotated 180 degrees if your in any doubt about the shape of it

I'm very impressed with your taking on something that most of us would put a match to!

What is an Osbourne 41, have you any pictures of the finished product? Must be pretty good boat to justify all the work.

I'm just a really stubborn old S...... I got fed up with people saying I couldn't do it, so decided to give it a try. You can see from the starboard side what she should look like.

Should get the port side done this summer with a bit of luck.

You're a brave man, but I think half the battle is to get stuck in. At a different order of magnitude, I bit the bullet and resplined the starboard topsides of my boat last Winter. I went through a stage of 'my God, what have I done?' at about the point where I had routed out the old wood (complete with the occasional wandering router line) but it all turned out OK in the end.

Good luck with your boat; she looks well worth saving.

As discussed previously, Ellesay is an Osbourne Eagle Class, and a smaller version, still same basic design, centre wheelhouse, etc, of the same era, was the Falcon class, about 32'. Freebodys have rebuilt one of these, Lady Lucy 2, and it's returned to the yard this weekend prior to being taken up to the Trad Rally at Henley. It's on the end of the pontoon where my boat is moored. If you are in the area to go to the Rally, it would be an inspiration to have a look, they have rebuilt it so original, it really is fantastic. I took similar photo's to those you show above, rotten sides removed showing rotten frames etc. It can be done! Whether it will win the overall prize I don't know, these often go to Edwardian day boats or slippers, but having seen the work gone into it, and admired the finished product, Lady Lucy musy be a strong contender.

Smashing idea, I'll try to get there. Those photos were taken 2 weeks ago and I've got most of the stringers replaced now. I've used iroko so they will last.
