Horrible Bank of Scotland stickers

My boat still has one of those horrible Bank of Scotland stickers attached to the starboard bow. You know the type, ordinarily you would dowse it with white spirit and hey presto! it peels quite easily. I'm using warm soapy water and my thumb nail until now which works well but is a little labourious

Would you recomend this the white spirit remedy in this situation?

Have you tried a hairdryer? Softens it.

Why is there a BoS sticker on the boat?

What I've found is that is best to peel them off. Its best to work from a corner and slowly ease enough to start peeling. It takes a bit of care not to rip the sticker but if you manage it its by far the best way IMHO!

The hair dryer suggestion is a good one I have used, especially at this time of the year when sticker plastic is particularly brittle.

Would favour acetone over white spirit for cleaning off any sticky residue.

Usual caveat: reasonable care required with the hair dryer and acetone.

Be warned, you might find some discolouration of the gelcoat from either sun fade or even dye in the plastic. Made a big mistake first year RNLI introduced the Offshore sticker. Went on easy enough; lost some gelcoat thickness trying to polish the discolouration out after a season. Adhesive so strong I started to think Offshore stickers were designed to double as collision repair mats!

I agree with earlier post, start a corner very gently and ease it off. A little laborious but safe. Then use Acetate to clean off residue. Petrol also works. I speak from experience cos I have just used above methods to remove two Boat names and it all went swimmingly.
