I have an old Hornet Log which uses a propeller rather than a paddle wheel.
It tends to get fouled very easily and it's position on the hull is daft. (right behind the echo transducer)

So I want to move it but I wondered if I could convert it to a paddle wheel.
I'd love to keep my old B&G Gauges though.

Does anyone know if its possible ?

Yup. Tinley Electronics will do you a kit. Pricey, though.

Yes their prices make it debatable whether to just buy a new system.

I figured that the propeller and the paddle wheel essentially work in the same way, counting the passes of a magnet past a sensor.
So I thought finding one that works on the same voltage and rotates at a similar rate wouldn't be too hard especially if somebody had been here before me.......

Perhaps you could remove the spinner from the bracket, attach it to a long electrical cable with a deck connector on the other end, and use it as a trailing log?

Overcomes the fouling problem and likely to be more accurate. (Would likely need recalibrating, which can presumably be done via the display head, as it will presumably be running a little faster in the clear water without hull, bracket and fouling interference.)
