Horizon 26 / 1GM10 Power issues...!

Mystery Solved!

Pulled her out yesterday to find the prop had been replaced by a large colony of worm coral.
Some fouling on the keels as well, but the prop was by far the worst area.
I'm now wondering if I should have anti fouled the prop when I had her out in April - do people normal anti foul props?
I presume it just comes straight off anyway...
Anyhow time for a scrub up and hopefully all will be well again soon!
Thanks again for all the various bits of advice - interesting to think through the possibles, and good to have checked the engine side of things earlier anyway from a problem solving learning perspective.

Jonathan, let me be the first to say, I told you so, I did!

Seriously, I'm glad you have found the explanation. Some people do indeed antifoul props but if it's bronze as they mostly are, getting it thoroughly clean and shiny is probably at least as helpful. The other thing of course is regular use. If the boat doesn't get a good run under power pretty frequently then what you have found will be the result. Once the creatures and plants get established it's hard to dislodge them. It's also the case that underwater growth is not constant throughout the season, warmer water as the summer goes on and of course the amount of light is important. That is why this kind of change can appear to 'suddenly' appear when you go to use the boat after a couple of weeks of non-use in late July or August. Here in the Firth of Forth we 'benefit' from pretty turbid water and relatively low light levels at the prop. We move to the West Coast in a few weeks and I fully expect our prop to need a good scraping by a bloke (or indeed a woman) with a snorkelling mask every few weeks.
Cheers
