Also looking at short break around Salcombe/Thurlestone in August and definitely would take the RIB for that. I see there's a slipway at Hope Cove (shown on www.boatlaunch.co.uk. Anybody any experience of launching a boat there (6m RIB)? (I know the Batson Creek slip in Salcombe - just interested to know if in this one at Hope Cove is a viable alternative.)

limited parking for cars and trailers, though there is an attendant summertime, and used by a lot of divers. Best at higher rather than low tides.
6M rib will be fine, most divers use similar.

An alternative suggestion is to stay in or around Plymouth, the Mountbatten Centre,

Mountbatten Center

There is an all tide/weather slip and you can leave your rib on their pontoon overnight, there is also a variety of accomodation available to suit all pockets and tastes.

Lots more options for cruising and visiting, also not so weather dependent, if you did want to visit Hope Cove its not a bad run from Plymouth anyway.

Sorry, no direct experience, but here's a photo we took whilst anchored just off there for lunch last year. Click to expand:

As others have said. Do able but limited. Never tried launching from there, but have been in the dinghy a few times.

I'd take the Salcolmbe or Mountbatton options. Then at least you can go out whatever the weather.

Agreed.
Is regularly used by smallish RIBs.
Doesn't seem to be a problem for them.
Biggest difficulty is trailing down the lanes to get to Hope Cove in the 1st place.
PS It's a super place from which to explore the River Avon when the tide is high enough.
