Hood Vektron sail fabric

We are about to replace all sails on our 42' IP and are trying to find out more about Hood's Vektron (Vectran) fabric, particularly its suitability for vertical battened in-mast furling main. There is a dearth of information so any experiences/views would be greatly appreciated.

I can't help you with suitability for an in-mast main, but it sets superbly on our genoa!

We are on our second Hood (now Kemps) 'Vectran' inmast mainsail with vertical battens.
The first is used for everyday use whilst the second is kept back for special occasions. I'm very pleased with the results.
The first one has 8mm battens whilst the second has 10mm battens. Much prefer the 10mm battens. The Vectran fabric has lasted well. On the first sail a lot of stitching had to be redone. (Wear on the thread as the sail brushes the slot on the mast as it is brought out/furled away.) The other big wear point is on the top batten pockets and if the sail is used a lot these will require attention at some point.
The price of the sail came down when Kemps took over.

You should talk to Pete sanders at Sanders sails Lymington. He is one of the few sailmakers who can use Hood cloth and knows a lot about it in al its forms including Vectron. A very well respected loft as well I believe. Tel 01590673981. No connection (other than as a customer)etc.
