I've recently purchased a new Honwave T30-AE3 and tonight I was about to fit some wheels.

However, on measuring up I've discovered that the engine plate on the transom isn't centred. It's 12mm offset.

Not hugely clear in the photo but if you look at the triangular gap between the tape and plate you can see difference. Also the alignment with drain hole is off.

I've taken loads of measurements from different reference points and it's definitely out.

Not sure what to do. I suppose it won't make a difference to engine drive but it's a bit annoying for a £1000 boat.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues? Am I being fussy?

Larger outboards can be offset to balance out the prop walk.
Would guess the non centering shows it was fitted out by hand by eye ?
Most people would never notice as it's not something anyone looks for.
Whilst it won't make any difference it does seem a little slap happy

Think I should try to return it? If I come to sell it one day I'd have to state it as a defect I think.

I know it's minor but it wasn't an insignificant purchase for me...

quick update on this - the dealer was very understanding and said he would refund me or replace. I really just want a replacement but problem is they can't get them at the moment and can't tell when they will be able to...

as it happens I was at another marina last weekend and they had Honwave boats. Had a chat to the guy there and we measured up the T27 they had in the showroom. The transom plate wasn't centred either! Over an inch off centre. Makes me wonder whether I should just keep mine..

I would just keep yours. If you are really concerned you could take the plate off and align it up but I suspect that it isn't worth it.

Just out of interest, do the transom clamps on the Honda outboard, line up with the propeller ?
