Honing an 85mm diameter engine cylinder liner

The three legged type is better to provide neat ad proper lines and bust any glazing. The flex hones are great for generally cleaning a bore, but not for obtaining a decent cross hatch required to hold the oil film and prevent glazing.

Use it with a firm plunging motion at moderate drill speed and plenty of paraffin (kerosene) to produce the familiar cross hatch.

Thanks for that advice.

The 3-legged type also has the atraction of being much cheaper than the FlexHone

I used the three legged type on my Perkins engine with great results. It took out the shine to the bore and was easy to use with a low power low revving drill.

Good tool!

cheers,
