hello, I'm looking for a 50 hp boat engine, I don't know what to choose, Honda or Yamaha, I specify that I want to buy it new, I mean reliability, power between the two, what would you choose?

I'm biased towards Honda but yamaha should be just as reliable. If both rated at 50hp shouldn't be any difference in performance.

Does the boat recommend any make as the mounting brackets can be different along with the engine shape.

If my memory serves me correctly, Yamaha are purpose built marine engines whereas Honda share parts from their automotive products. The Yamaha engines are therefore better suited to marine work as they are better at resisting corrosion, so I am told.

I've owned both Honda and Yamaha engines. Both ran fine but I would always lean towards Yamaha outboards.

Well first look at length of Warranty and do they do extended warranty. Price , and who is local to you for service and parts.

Yes Honda used their experience with car engines to produce some of their outboard models.

The 150 VTEC Uses an Accord block.

Millions made of course and as Honda have been in the outboard business since 1964, i think they've sorted the marine environment aspect by now.

Looking at the spec sheets theses are the differences

Honda is 808 cc and 96kg 3 cylinder

Yamaha 996 cc 150 kg 4 cylinder.

So it looks like the Yamaha is a detuned " bigger" engine whereas the Honda is lighter but more stressed one.

What boat are you fitting the engine to?

Does weight matter?

If those numbers are correct, that is quite a big weight difference to have hanging off the back of what is probably a smallish boat. I would imagine the Yamaha is a torquier engine than the Honda, so that is another consideration, depending on what use the boat is going to be put to.

Honda give a 6 year warranty, yamaha is 5. Mercury is only 3. Tohatsu give 7 years.
I read that the first Honda outboard was a clone of a tohatsu.
The yamaha according to yamaha weighs 107kg, not 150kg
Suzuki gives 6 year warranty , 104kg.
An advantage with suzuki is spares. Their prices have been hugely reduced to make genuine parts cheaper than aftermarket.
All the 50,s will be the same hp and similar weight. I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. The deciding factor may be initial cost and warranty ?
My mercury 50 (tohatsu) is 2002 and still runs beautiful.

Tohatsu make most of the worlds smaller outboards

My mate has a Tohatsu 150, but underneath it says Honda. It's identical to my BF150 except for the colour.....

My honda 30 is around 90Kg and the fifty is a lot bigger.

I’ve always run Hondas because I believe that they are more reliable….that is my belief…I think that if there was reliable reliability data there wouldn’t be a cigarette paper between any of the leading outboard manufacturers.
I would visit the main dealers in your area…get a feel for the place…do they look reliable….then see who gives the best deal and guarantee.
Also check service intervals….they can be expensive so, does any brand need less.
I could go on all day like this thinking of new metrics….just like you have 🤣…just remember there isn’t a wrong choice…which is a great starting point for any decision

Except for the 2.5
