Does anyone know where I could hire a 2kva honda suit case generator?
I would like to buy one but they are too expensive for my small amount of use.
Or if you know of a second hand one for sale.

we recently got one of ebay second hand, so I would suggest looking there first. Even second hand on ebay they seem to go for about £800. We got ours cheaper then that, but I think it was because the seller stated it had to be collected, which was fine as we lived local.

I have kept an eye on Ebay but as you say they are still pricey. We are intending to have a week away so I thought it may come in handy so not to run the batteries down.
I saw your photos. Looks like you had a lovely trip.
If I see you on the pontoon perhaps you could give me a few tips on where to moor.

Just spend a lot less than the cost of a genny and beef up your battery capacity.

Quieter for the neighbours too !

I concur (better than keying in "+1") -
I bought a hernia inducing luggable unit when I had to have my engine out and with one of Mr. Sterling's all singing and dancing battery chargers, the performance was pedestrian to say the least.
Took all day to do what a 3 hour cruise would do.

Do give bumping up your battery capacity serious consideration.

I sold my honda EU20, as it was never really required apart from Rally lighting!

Never miss it, Four large batteries seem to last for ages! I use both pairs*, rather than just the leisure batteries, as 480 A/Hr can take a fair old hammering.

*I would take a jump pack if on a long journey as a precaution of course :D

I bought a Kipor IG2000 - and can't fault its performance - perhaps slightly larger than the honda - but it has never let me down (two season old now) it lay all winter and when I brought it out again in april started after 3-4 pulls of the cord.... Certainly a lot cheaper than the honda and IMHO worth the money - I don't have shore power where I am berthed so it is used extensively - water heater - Cooker etc....

We have a 2kw Kipor which just get used to provide 240v when we're out and about and it's absolutely great - half the price of a Honda and you won't notice any difference with the type of light use you'll be requiring of it. We've had it for over 2 years now and not had a moments trouble with it. *tempts fate* It purrs along quite quietly - certainly no more noisy that others I've experienced on the riverbank and significantly quieter than some.

Give us a shout if you see us on the pontoon and we'll fire her up for you.

+3 for the Kipor IG2000. Allegedly, genuine Honda engine parts are directly interchangeable with the Kipor, although never had the reason to test the gossip.

Had it 3 years, starts 1st or 2nd pull everytime. I changed the original chinese Bosch copy sparkplug for an NGK one as I was awash with dozens of the right grade at the time and only paid 75p each at trade bulk prices. (NGK CR7HSA if you were wondering which grade to buy)

Yup I recommend the Kipor. It will run all day at 1.6KW, I would not run it long at full capacity tho.

No need for a generator, we have 2 batteries just turn onto 1 for overnight so you can always start in the morning! We alternate every day for the overnight so the usage is balanced. Use alcohol in the cooker, get the calorifier hooked up so you have hot water. Don't use the microwave and have a small 150W inverter (£18 from Maplin) to convert the 12V to charge phones, ipod, laptop etc.

Works for us and we can spend a week away quite happily :D

My batteries are inline and so I have just the one main switch and so a little concerned on running them both down over night. Though I do have a calorifier off the engine and mains.
Where can I get fuel for the stove as I understand there are different types of liquid fuels?

When you get to stay in one place for 4 or 5 nights on the trot you will see why a generator becomes a useful additional source to have around.

We always move every day so it works for us, I agree if you want to stay still for a few days a genny will be very useful!

The fuel is methylated spirits try and get the clear one (you have to hunt for it) the purple stuff stinks! Or get alcohol brule from France. We also use a small flat gas cooker which we will use to boil potatoes if we are BBQing.

I didn't realise your battery setup was different from mine, I can only run one battery flat if they are switched. It would be a bit of a worry if you can flatten both overnight.

Had the Honda eu20i for nearly six years now never missed a beat used regularly for my work as well ,run it alongside another moorers Kippor a few years ago now and the kippor made a right racket in comparison and was a fair bit bigger in size ....that said they are far cheaper so it`s pays your money takes your choice time .
From what i have seen secondhand wise reckon i would get a far bigger % of my money back than if he had bought the Kippor Steve.
