Where is the fuel filter located and how do you access it? My ‘04 is occasionally shutting down at high speed. I suspect that is the issue. This question was asked by another member in May ‘10 but, it was not answered.
 
From recollection, there is not one. Sounds like jet problem. Have you cleaned the carb?

Incorporated into the fuel tank outlet

The tank and filter should be cleaned every 6 months or 50 hours

Check the tank vent also

I should have noted, the motor has not been in storage. It has been operated on a weekly basis. This shut down problem has occurred a couple of times in the past.

There is some type of filter/stainer located at the bottom of the fuel tank. Mine was clear and the tank clean. Reckon that’s not the issue.
 
If youre using your engine weekly , periodically drain the bowl of your carb. If youre storing your engine for a few weeks at a time drain the carb every time prior to storage
 
There is a small push in filter where the fuel line goes into the bottom of the tank, or at least there should be.

100% sure as I had it apart just before xmas when I gave the whole fuel system a scrub and polish.

That's the filter referred to in # 3 and by the OP himself in #5

I do drain the carb bowl prior to storage. Why drain it “periodically? What does this accomplish?
