My BF2 (with clutch) has developed an oil leak from what appears to be the base of the engine where it enters the leg. The oil slowly drains down the leg while not in use. It has not been laid down incorrectly (!) Has anyone suffered the same problem with their engine? Can anyone point me in the right direction for stripping away the plastic cover beneath the power unit for a closer inspection please? Engine runs fine but the oil leak is begining to make a mess... Thanks

Mine did the same. It is in for servicing, lets hope it comes out cured... anyone actually knows why it happens?

In desperation I have taken my engine to the local Honda agent...for a fee they have told me that if the oil seal in the base of the crankcase had failed, the oil would be exiting via the clutch basket and down thru the shaft (not visible on the outside) They maintain that overfilling can have caused the apparent leak. I have therefore carefully drained the crankcase (don't use a vacuum pump, apparently not effective on this engine) I have refilled with 225 mls of correct grade oil and carefully cleaned the leg. I will run it tomorrow and see what happens! Checking the level is correct does seem a bit vague using the sight glass.
We shall see....thanks for the replies chaps and lets hope the matter can be resolved easily. I will post again with the outcome but any other input much appreciated.
Thanks, Tony P

No leakage overnight....ran engine this afternoon and all appears OK. I did observe the goings on thru the sight glass whilst the engine was running, the oil was almost totally covering the glass which could mean that slight overfilling would force the excess out of the breather pipe.
Should the problem re-occur when the engine is used in earnest I will post again, in the meantime I hope the correct level will solve the problem. Thanks once again for your comments.
