I've got a problem with the above outboard, BF2D model, in that I need to check and clean the jets. I am looking for an exploded diagram of the carb and details of any quirks in the procedure. I have the Seloc manual which is absolutely pants and not any use at all, and was also wondering if the Clymer one is any better.

Many thanks for your help

Chris

IMHO 'Clymer' etc etc etc manuals are all over the top
Usually tell you lots of details ref crankshaft diameters an camshaft shimming etc etc
If the little motor is not idling nicely
The first thing I would check is the pilot jet and it's relevant orifices.

The carb is no big deal.
You a right to suspect this
Take the beggar off
Remove to a place that is clean an tidy
Theses days with modern phones/cameras, take a piccy before you remove the beggar
Simps then
When replacing
So's yer know where the throttle cable etc goes when yer puts it back!
Same before you strip out the jets etc
Take all bits of you can
Take to an air line (motor bike mendy places will have an air line with a suitible 'fine jet thinghy') an blow through the body of the carb.
I usually then poke through the jets an orifices with the hair of a wire brush or similar but be carefull, an gentle like!

You are on the right track
That is what I would do first.

A Bloke dropped one off to me today with a similar symptom.
I will be checking it out Wednesday
So I might be back with more advice
Or some cries for help!!!

I've posted this link to a diagram on the Honda web site a couple of times. It's not easy to find.

Found it!!

If it dies as soon as you put the choke in it's the plastic jet. Number 2 on the diagram. Take the top off the carb (4? philips screws). Then pull the plastic jet out with pliers. It's held in by the O rings. Clean it out with a bristle. Reassemble and it may work. Until the next bit of crud in the fuel line blocks it.

Now remove petrol stains from kitchen table.

Having said the above mine still hesitates if I fully open the throttle. But it may have done that from new.

Many thanks both of you. I'll do the dirty tomorrow (bit late just now as I start work at 7.00am tomorrow!!).

We can compare notes after.

Cheers

Woo hoo.... it worked (and is still working). Took all of five minutes to do from start to finish. The only concern was how much force and how big a set of pliers to use on the plastic jet. Ended up wit a big set of flat nosed pliers and just pulled! Blocked pilot jet so thanks for the info and links guys.

Ah!
Well done ctva
Plus thanks for letting us know
Questions/ queries are asked from time to time on the Forum
Answers/ suggestions are proffered.
Then it all goes quiet!

And from the forum, the word is spread...

I was walking along the canal at Crinan on Saturday and saw a 16' Hunter with outboard in bits in the cockpit. On enquiring as to the problem with his 4hp Mariner, it was the same problem I had. He'd cleaned the main jet but was unaware of a primary jet. So I sounded very knowledgable, located the primary jet, Duly cleaned it and it ran perfectly... I did admit that I'd just got the answer myself from here, so a happy couple are now continuing out to the west coast thanks to your help.
