While it was only lightly used it has now not been used for 2/3yrs, just taken out of salt water and stored. Hope to go sailing for 1month in June.

Need to find a dealer to service it in Southampton area.

Any recommendations please.

Too much work myself for DIY.

Don't bother

Mine is two years old, light use on tender. Apart from an oil change nothing else to service really. Beauty of an air cooled motor. Mine has perhaps five hours use so no point in changing g/box oil either. If it 'ain't broke! (I fully service the inboard every 50 hours, so not complacent/lazy)

The owners manual should cover all the routine servicing issues That is loadable from the website if you have mislaid the original.
There no water pump impeller to worry about and if its had little use the clutch should not require attention.

A couple of hours one evening should see it all done easily

There is a dealer locator on the website. I found one in Southampton, one in Warsash and one at Port Solent

Suggest that you read the service section of the manual. It really isn't onerous to service it yourself..........and then you'll know it's been done.

I have one "resting" in my shed. For reasons I can't quite explain even to myself, I prefer to use my 2.5 Tohatsu. It, too, is only lightly used. I gave it a service and put it away a couple of seasons ago and I have every confidence that it will run when asked to do so.

Great piece of engineering.

apart from... the four m6 x 60 mild steel bolts very close to the water level that hold the clutch to the powerhead and badly corrode their heads. The absence of any filter on the fuel. The bleed screw on the carburettor that rusts.... a coil that looks sealed but didn't survive a dunking to less than a foot deep (during an attempted theft).

My Honda bikes were excellent, I am less than impressed with these aspects of a marine engine.
It's nice that it doesn't depend on mixture, crankcase pressure or cooling, like the 2strokes, but I was disappointed with the details above.

Honda had lots of problems when they first launched the marine lawnmower ( sorry outboard). lots of the bolt-on bits rusted.
the next gen were better but still a lawnmower.
i had one :o but soon sold it ;)
the Tohatsu 3.3hp is sooooo superior

I have two of them and I have the rusty bolts etc.
To add to the list of very un-Honda like design and engineering: the oil cap that is horizontal so you can't actually tip any oil in.

I find the major issue with the 2.3hp apart from the fact that you an hear it coming from 200 metres away and I am always apologising for the noise, is that the compression on start up is such that it can grab the starter cord out of your hand and give you a nasty bite.

Also the kids can't start it reliably as it is so hard to pull over. I am told the new Yam 2.5hp 4stroke has an auto decompression when you first engage the starter to make it easier to start. When I drop this one into Fareham Lake I probably won't bother with the dive and save up for the Yam.

1 guess why we sold ours :)
