I have my outboard at home and wish to carry out an oil change.
Is it ok to run the engine (out of water) in order to warm up the oil first?

Thanks,

Graham

An air-cooled motor can be run out of the water but I wouldn't bother. Provided that you leave the oil to drain out for 30 minutes or so, the difference in terms of residual oil between cold draining and hot draining will be trivial. :)

Hi yes warm it up first.. the sump has ribs inside for strength....dirty oil and residue does settle between the ribs. Give it a good run first, preferably under power in water. If you can't run in water warm it up ticking over out of water.
250ml of 10/30, 10/40 oil to refil

Steve a quick question if I may ,the 2.3 has a oil level glass , on mind you just can't see through the glass to see if the oil is in the middle , am I right in thinking if the oil is filled till if just start to come out of the oil filler that's about Right .
Bit like the old BS engines and villers .

That's slightly overfilled. The oil should be just touching the bottom of the threads in the oil filler hole. Make sure the engine us exactly vertical and pointing forward and leavevotca minute to settle before checking the level.
Hope this helps
