I have a Honda 2.3 outboard engine. Great runner albeit a little noisy. I stored it in a container and it fell over onto wrong side for storage. Oil has ran out of it. About half a pint. What is the procedure to start it please? Obviously I will check oil level.
I also note quite a lot of the nuts on the unit are not stainless steel and are rusting. I also seem to remember someone was providing a kit to change the nuts from mild steel to stainless. Any one have a link please?

I would top the oil back up to the correct level then remove the spark plug and turn the engine over on the pull cord a few times to see if anything sprays out of the plug hole. If the cylinder is clear then replace the plug and start her up. :)

Exactly as Richard says. You will get a bit of smoke for a few minutes but dont worry.
Here is a link to the fastners -
Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272860957629.

Dont worry, when you or your mechanic has to remove the powerhead to service or repair your engine you will be glad they're stainless. I have seen litetally hundreds of these scrapped due to corroded fastners.
Ps dont forget to copperslip the threads

Steve, is copperslip best lube to use on stainless steel threads into aluminium casting? Seems like a recipe for galvanic corrosion, would moly based lube be less risky?

Excellent advice Steve. I have used copper grease for 40 years on every combination of metals without any problems. I recently discovered ally grease which I now tend to use for alloy-alloy contact and on places like alloy wheels but only because any surplus doesn't look as messy.

Alumslip ? from the makers of Molyslip and Copaslip
