I'm using a Honda 10hp (B100) on my Evolution, there is an electrical conection on the side by the gear lever is this for charging the battery? Any other information about this engine would be appreciated, thanks

Provided there is a rectifier fitted in the engine, (a thing with fins on and wires running to the plug) then it will charge the battery at approximately four amps at medium throttle. If the wires come straight from under the flywheel to the plug then you only have alternating current which will not charge the battery. Have a chat with Maplin's. They may be able to supply the bits to construct a full wave rectifier at a fraction of the cost Honda will charge if this is the case.

Honda BF100s were fitted with rectifiers as standard. To be certain: there should be red and black wires leading from the socket back to a smallish box inside the casing. This in turn should have two green wires going to a lighting coil inside the flywheel asemply. There should be a 5 amp in line fuse between the rectifier and the socket.

If there is only a black wire to the socket, and the other side goes to an earthing point, then the connector is for a remote stop switch, but these were not fitted as standard.
