In a recent tread it asks if its possible to ,manufacture your own varnish. As an alternative would it be possible to compare products obtained from Chandlers to those sold at such places as "sheds" (B&Q etc), eg B&Q household "deck" cleaner, Yacht Varnish, brass hinges, brass screws, caustic soda for cleaning out cooling matrix`s etc, etc.

As an aside I met a couple who painted their boat (and very nice it was too) with Weathershield paint at a much reduced price to a nautical paint. He did however slip some Owatrol into the finish of his highly prized inside work.

Hi,

A friend of mine has a Land Rover with canvas roof and decided to waterproof it using the stuff they sell to protect your brick work. Can't remeber what it was called, but it's the stuff they sell at B&Q and advertise on TV. It worked really well and stops it being stained as well. The water sits on top in blobs.
