Holyhead has also taken a beating

As more pics come out in social media the extent of the damage looks quite severe. Emergency services are asking people not to come down to the marina and several boats are reported to be sinking.

Jeez thats awful. Heart goes out to any forumites with boats there

It's been reported that the Stena ferry left the harbour sailing to safer waters in Caernarvon Bay without passengers. Jeez if a ferry abandons port it must have been bad.

Indeed. When it's that rough it actually looks safe than being on a swinging mooring than bashing against a pontoon. Hope their bilge pumps are working!

Yes. Notice the pontoons seem to have been swept bare but the swing moorings seem to be faring better

I remember Easterly winds causing big trouble in Abersoch, but they didnt happen very often when boats were in the water. I'd also guess that the pontoons at holyhead are mainly empty because most boats will be on the hard, (hopefully), rather than lots having been washed away.

I hope you are right to.

How was it in Conwy Bruce?

The HM says we were spared the brunt of it. Boats on the hard are OK. Something about the jetty or first pontoon but he did not elaborate

From Holyhead Sailing Club
A very sad day in Holyhead Harbour. I am afraid to report that all the yachts in the marina that were involved in the winter racing are sunk and there is very little left of the marina.

good god, 80 boats! That's more than initially quoted as "several" :disgust: My heart goes out to all the owners. The marina destroyed too. That will ruin it for those left on the hard as well. I was wondering if it was such a good idea to go on the hard when the The Beast hit. Now I am so glad I did as my choices were Caernafon or Holyhead as a winter berth.

dreadful. we all love our boats and seeing your pride and joy sunk or washed up damaged like this would be horrid. Sounds like you had a lucky escape !

A friends latest report on FB. I think this will be one of the biggest boat losses in the UK for some time. This looks more reminicent of the BVIs. I can vouch for the force 12 last night and thank god that there was no loss of life. Heres hoping that the local community can recover and whilst no lives have been lost some livlihoods may be at risk.
