Holyhead boating today, out in my dads put put boat!!!!

Decided today for some Father - Son - Grandson bonding on the water so we set sail in Grandads lovely tub!

Now my old dad aint too well, he's got the horrible Big C and is struggling on, but he's a fighter and decided a new engine and a full new set of brass fuittings would cheer him up!

So £900 on ebay and he got a 2004 15hp which is a lovely little unit, and he's spent the last 2 weeks attacking the boat with various power tools.

So off we went today for a swift jaunt around Holyhead Harbour, which is always an Adventure with Father at the helm!!!

Needless to say we (HE) upset a fast ferry, a fisherman, his girlfriend and the harbour launch, oblivious to any of the above! I love him to bits!!!

Stuck behind the gate all day today.

Isn't Rhosneigr the place with all the rocks. Think we went by car, I'll have a look on me map.

Rocks? Well i guess it's costal so i suppose yes!!!

They are OK, if you know where they all are, which at around 18.45 today i proved that i don't!!!!!!

No harm done, just my pride! The wife skiing behing wasnt too impressed at the 35mph - 0mph in 2 yards stop!

I see the old Seagull on the transom......the only time I had a genuine breakdown (20 years ago) my old 6 hp Seagull got me home, although puffing a fair bit of smoke at the same time

I've got a Mariner 4hp. My son bought it, hum 15 year ago, second hand.

It got a bit of a service last year from Kwackers. Instructions, dont do nowt expencive.

Think it got used about once last year, the weather did not help.

Launched the dinghy today, in Conarfon dock. Dinghy still on the davits from last year. Breather still open. Started second pull. Then ran smoothly. Took it for a spin, no probs.

I cant think of a way of killing the bugger, it's going better than ever.

Even tried no oil in the leg, for about five years. Still it goes on and on.

I want a new 5/6 hp thingy. But my old one wont break.

Dont particularly want 4 stroke.


It's just my outboard aint shiny anymore.

In the coastal regions of Queensland, I have heard due to frequent small outboard thefts, the police/marine authorities advise boaters if they want to keep their dinghy OB's to make them appear old and grotty. An example I saw recently was a current series Yamaha painted with a can of matt red.
Looked appalling, but the old guy (pensioner) that owned it said he couldn't afford to lose it or the cost to insure it.

I'm sure there would be other ways to make them appear less desirable.

Now there's a story here!

I asked dad before launching if there was fuel in the Seagull.... there wasnt.

I then mixed some fuel up and gave her a few pulls and she fired, i prefer to know that the aux IS going to work.

Anyhow when we were out we did a spot of fishing and then spotted the SWIFT fast ferry coming in, and we decided to shuffle off a bit. However dad choked the engine and flooded it.... now the SWIFT was a little close for comfort so i dropped the old Seagull down and fired her up first pull!

I haven't felt that smug with myself in a long while!

Excellent...I should imagine your Dad has more important things to worry about..Good luck to him.

I must say I have not seen it that calm for a long time or HH harb entrance very unusual.
