Just had a note from Costco re holts antifreeze & summer coolant regards a batch problem between 4th Oct 06, and 20th Dec 06. on a 5ltr. tub I purchased.

The batch was not concerntrated as on the label, but diluted.
Given I,ve used the tub to fill the engine block for the winter, to protect against the cold, then i need to check the protection level now.

So just a note to let you know if anyone else has used the same brand and holts cannot track u down!

There is a help line on 0161 491 7391 to check with if u need.

Check that its ethylene glycol as Holts A/Freeze used to be spirit based and thats bad news for hoses and pump bearings etc. probably ethylene glycol now.

Note that you can check the concentration of ehylene glycol based antifreezes with a tester that measures the density (like a little hydrometer) but you cannot do that with the methanol based ones, but I too do not think they still exist.

FWIW the Holts antifreeze on sale at Focus DIY at £1.99 per litre is methanol free If you have big screen or a magnifying glass you can just read it in this picture

You probably have not had you specs as long as I have had mine. I will have to get some new ones soon but for the moment I can still see other cars when I am driving, getting a bit iffy with pedestrians though. Number plates started getting a bit difficult to read but when they did away with them that problem was solved.
