We plan to travel from Vlissingen to Amsterdam and onward into the Isselmeer (all spellings local) we will go via the Schipol route into Amsterdam and would be grateful for an indication of how long we should allow for the trip, we have got 2 weeks for the whole holiday and young kids and whilst not wanting to hang around we dont want to thrash it either. I will return to Blighty sans kids via the north sea canal and out on the second saturday.

2 to 3 days @ best.
check times of bridges @ Alblaserdam ( very restricted )
Gouda Rail Bridge
Schipol Motorway Bridge (opens twice in 24 hr)
try the Harleem route less probs
but its all great fun especially for a family as there is lost to see on the way
stay in the Sixhaven in Amsterdam opposite the Central Stn with a free 24 hr ferry service into the City
it would be quicker to go outside say from the Roompot to Schevevingen then Ijmuiden

You are probably talking about the 'Staande Masten Route' leading from the south (Wilemstad) to the North (Friesland and further)

The part from Vlissingen to Willemstad will take a day, the part to Gouda another day, the next day you will arrive at the south of Amsterdam. From there there is a 'flottilla' through Amsterdam in the middle of the night. So the next day early you will arrive at the IJsselmeer (Oranjesluizen).
A few hours after Willemstad you will enter a water called 'De Dortsche Kil'. From there all the way past Amsterdam will be motoring. The middle part can be a bit boaring. There is a bridge at Gouda that can also spoil your fun as it will only open 2 or three times per day.

Ciao,

how about Oostende the last w/e in May then some of us will b there /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Would be happy to join but my new (old) boat is not to arrive untill mid-June. And to use my just bought new dinghy to motor over to Oostende is pushing it a bit, I think.

.... been trying to get there for years

It's all new to us, but we will be joining a flottilia led by a very capable skipper, so I put my trust in him, as I lack the experience of such a big trip myself.

Three days, all going well

Quicker outside but less fun.

Having a smaller engine than most boats we found three days was a bit of a flog.

Agree from Dordrecht onwards its a bit industrial, but nice again at the Sixhaven!
