Just got back from 10 weeks cruising in and around Holland. Left the boat yesterday near Amsterdam and flew home for Grandaughter's bithday. Planning to return in a couple of weeks to carry on cruising, returing to our Solent berth in October.

To the point - I found white diesel costs between 0.98 Euros in a large bunkerstation when taking at least 300 litres and 1.18 euros in smaller marinas. (that is between 70 amd 84 pence.) The most dissapointing, but unfortunatly necessary, was Nieupoort on our way there which was 1.17 Euro a litre.

However, if this is what UK move to I do not think we will be too seen off. But we can only wait and see.

As for the scare in MBM about fines in Holland for having red diesel in the tanks. I asked about this at a couple of bunkerstations and checked with Harbour Masters.
Most Bunkerstations have both Red & White. If you ask for red and say you are a commercialy registered craft they will give it to you (Dutch boats they can tell by their registration number, but how do they know if you are flying a UK flag). However, they record all their sales and if you are caught taking on red in Holland when you are not a commercialy registered craft the then the authorities, if they catch you, will have you.

I do not like to drop my tanks below half and thus keep a worrying red tinge. But each time it was emphasised that, as long as you keep a believable log and fuel receipts, I would have no problems.

Until recently at least, you were also allowed to buy red diesel if you were a foreign-flagged vessel, about to leave Holland. We re-fuelled the other side of Amsterdam, and the lad, spotting the Red Ensign and without asking, obligingly pumped in 900 litres of red. From the subsequent conversation, he had mistakenly assumed we were on our way back to the UK via Ijmuiden. In fact, the boat lived in Holland. Hey, ho!
