We have bought a Wauquiez Pretorian 35 in Turkey and plan to live aboard spring and autumn. There is no holding tank [which we believe is now mandatory]. Not much room. Has anyone experience of 'Treatment systems' eg Lectra/San sold by West Marine which "kills coliform bacteria...2 electrodes create hydrochloric acid...."
Thanks

There was a thread on this a few days ago. Look for the post by Headmistress.

Raritan Lectra/San

I highly recommend the Lectra/San...and btw, it creates hypochlorous acid--a type of chlorine--not hydrochloric acid. It's highly reliable and durable...been around for 30 years...some of the original units are still in service...and almost maintenance free. Legal in all waters except those specifically designated "no discharge." It's also the most environmentally friendly solution to onboard waste management, because it reduces bacteria count to less than 10/100 ml and does not require the use any toxic chemicals (the solution reverts to salt water when the electrical current is removed).

You can read all about it, including the complete manual here: http://www.raritaneng.com/products/waste_treatment/lectrasan.html

You'll also find the articles under "environmental news" here worth reading: http://www.raritaneng.com/information/news/index.html

I'm very familiar with the Lectra/San, and will be glad to answer any questions about it after you've had a chance to digest all the information.

Re: Raritan Lectra/San

This seems to be asymptoting to my query based on the Red Sea liveaboard post.
I am still waiting for a reply from the boat owner (who only docks once a week).

Re: Raritan Lectra/San

Peggy,

I've been following the TPs (toilet posts) with some interest (and some wry amusement: surely only a British forum would dedicate so much effort to lavatorial matters?!). ANy idea if the Lectra/San is sold in Italy? How much does it cost in Europe?

Re: Raritan Lectra/San

If my email is any indication, people everywhere are equally obsessed with matters pertaining to marine toilets....but usually only after they've suffered the consequences of failing to grasp that marine loos have nothing in common with their household counterparts.

I'm 99% certain that the Lectra/San is sold in the UK and Europe, but have no idea how the prices compare with US prices. You can find out by contacting Raritan directly...they're very reponsive to email (address is on their site, link in my previous reply). However it may be less expensive to order it from a US retailer...the best price I know of is from Fore and Aft Marine http://www.foreandaftmarine.com/ $725 USD, plus shipping (ship weight is about 23 lbs). It's available in 12v, 24v, 32v, btw.
