We can not be the only ones.... we have a holding tank, the hoses are the correct grade and dont look that old, we have what looks like a water strainer for an engine water inlet inlet being used as a an air filter on the breather, it does have some sort of filter medium in their but their is just a pervading odour in the heads and the fore cabin. I had a cover panel off today and a look inside and the outlet end of the tank breather is just open and in behind the cabinets. I had thought about using an air admittance vent like I would on household plumbing but that lets air in not out so tank would pressurize. And for info we do not have a diverter valve no idea why after all the effort they went too to fit the tank and the pipework.

Has anyone else had the same issue or can anyone think of some ideas to alleviate this annoyance
Thanks in advance

We have the same set up and change the carbon filter about every three years. Bloody poor workmanship If there is no pipe to vent it overboard, ours does.

Change the carbon filter and it will solve the problem, I would recommend have it vented overboard rather than venting internally.

You can buy activated charcoal carbon filter media loose, then just replenish the existing vent filter body

On our boat, the vent doubles as an overflow. Note to self, do not leave the dinghy tied along the starboard side whilst anchored in a bay with several friends on board for a couple of nights and an 80 litre black water tank.
I can’t help thinking that the vent isn’t intended as an overflow.....but pressure has just turned it into one 🤷‍♂️🤔😳
