Well I have recently realised that I never updated my certificates after getting married.

So I am now part way through – it’s a nightmare!

Basically I can’t find half of them each having been put “somewhere safe” when we moved or tidied up

Now what I would really like is some decent folder/leather/plastic wallet in which to store the certificates (YM offshore, YM Ocean, SRC, Restricted VHF, LRC, ICC, safety boat, powerboat, sailing , PWC, windsurfing, first aid…... etc).

The folder/wallet supplied with the YM certs is about the best (although not a patch on the 1980’s version), but what I am really looking for is a complete wallet or something which would hold all the certificates in one place, and yet be transportable when we go away.

Has anyone found something?

I don’t want to end up with them spread all over as has happened up to now

I don't have such a glorious sheaf of certificates, but I keep the Ship's Papers (SSR, VHF license + certificate, insurance, VAT document, etc etc) in a neat faux-leather folder intended for restaurant menus etc. Each "page" is a plastic sleeve to hold a piece of paper, and there's a window in the front for a card with the boat's name etc. Looks very swish; this is A4 size which would be too big for travelling, but smaller ones should be available.

I bought it on eBay, but sadly can't remember what search terms I used to find it.

Get them laminated an put in a binder of your choice.

Its recommendation of a right-size binder.

The certs are a really odd size - if I laminate them the folder is 6 1/2" x 8 3/4" plus - nearest size is A4 - not very portable Ok for home, but not for transport, if I take them out as needed then I am back to square one.

I was hoping that there may be a custom one out there somewhere that folds like the 1980's style DOT one

Never thought of a menu holder - good idea

Will try that

Really surprised there isn't a market for specific ones (after all there are loads of certificates given out nowadays - would have though someone would have identified the market)

Wouldn't call it glorious...

Used to teach sailing/PB/Yachting etc for a living so one tends to end up with a few, they don't matter a jolt - if you make a hash of coming alongside, you look like a d**k no matter what certs you hold!

In addition to physically storing them, it's also a good plan to scan them and store in an online location such as Google docs or an online mail account. In addition to these, scan your passport, travel insurance and any other useful info so that if you ever need it, all you need to do is find a computer and you can download copies. With a bit of luck the RYA and other organisations will eventually realise what century it is and do all certification online, this is how it works in IT qualifications, and I can publish all of mine for others to view. The paper ones still go in a folder but they are far less precious because they are just for personal enjoyment rather than proof.

If to OP was clever enough to gain all of these certs i would have thought she would know how to keep them safe :o
