Can anyone tell me if HMS Conquerer was ever depthcharged? I know one of the crewmembers aboard during the Falkling conflict who insists she was.The time and place changes with the amount of alcohol hes had, either just after the Belgrano sinking or up in the Artic on her way home.

The Belgrano was accompanied by a pair of ex-USN Sumner class destroyers which may have retained their WW2 depth charge projectors, but the chances of them damaging anything with them would have been slim, and dropping depth charges would have killed or injured any survivors in the water.

Yes,but they didnt have the speed of theConquerer underwater 35kts plus.Frank

Jane's has Conqueror listed as 28kts and the Sumner 34kts, but neither would have been going anywhere fast; speed is noisy and flow noise prevents you from hearing what the other guy is doing. They aren't known as the silent service for nowt.

It is alleged that......

It is alleged that during the 70’s & the 80’s submarines used to enter certain areas and sit on the bottom to record other platforms for recognition purposes, get into the trail for the same reason, carry out underwater photography, and take a very keen interest in other countries exercises (aka war games).
It is also alleged that if detected an international signal would be transmitted containing phrases along the lines of “move it or loose it” or positive action will be taken.

Take from this what you will…. but suffice to say weapons may have been used.

Just where is Tom Clancy when a good story is up for grabs… eh!

It's not alleged, it's fact! The RN's steely black bringers of death were indeed sniffing around Ivan's underwear drawer when he was in the middle of exercises; there was a documentary on the box a while ago which showed some blurry underwater pictures of several russian warships taken from periscopes, and some oldnotbolds recounting tales of unintended 'bumping', sonar lashing and Ivan and Boris(and Wilma the Whale) carrying out manoeuvres not in compliance with the ColRegs.
