Not even sure why I'm asking...but I used to see this leviathan when we drove through Southampton...and on recent visits, it hasn't been there...

...I've a feeling she'd still be visible if she'd sunk at the dockside, so where is she?

Nor can I find anything about this massive structure's past or prospects. Does anybody have any links to a bit of her history? Thanks in advance. :encouragement:

Thanks Ben...I'd heard that, too...but I'd also heard a nasty rumour that she'd gone there to be dismantled. Hope that's not the case.

I saw her being towed down the North Channel (the one north of the Brambles, not the one leading in to Hurst or the one between Scotland and Ireland or indeed any of the dozens of other North Channels there must be) a couple of years ago. Presumably on her way from Southampton to Portsmouth. Quite a sight!

I can believe it. I'd seen this vast piece of ironmongery at different, distant ends of the docks over the years, so I had supposed it was on rails.

I wonder how deep-drafted that platform is...and how smooth the conditions need to be for her to be moved safely across open water.

I'm sorry to hear that...if it's accurate.

Assuming it's still with us, I'd think anyone from Lee-on-Solent in the west to Langstone in the east, would be able to see that profile, high above trees and roofs in the distance.
