HK registered. Why?

Looking at a boat in France which according to the brokers details is Hong Kohg registered. This is a new one on me and I don't know if this is something to be concerned about.

Anyone got any ideas?

Most likely a HK owner. Nowt to be concerned about. You should get a cert of deletion as part of the completion paperwork, then you are free to register it in UK or wherever you choose

Btw how's your brother getting on with his boat. Is it still based in Scotland? Something like that would suit me down to the ground. Was it a particular make and model or a one off?

Thanks LJS. He's getting on fine, the boat has turned out to be pretty much perfect and an absolute steal at the price he got it for. He put new Vosper stabs on it and that has improved it lots. New navy Awlgrip too. He has the luxury of swmbo loving it. I cannot believe the mileage he racks up, at 10kts. It's based in Oban/Clyde/Dunstaffnage still, but last summer he sailed it down to Penzance and Scilly. and this year it is in Shetland. I had to do a double take when i checked where Shetland is - it's north of Stockholm! He has had 61degN on the GPS. He has over 1200nm range by the way.

AFAIK it is a one off, but on a producton Tyler hull. There are a few similar one-offs around - I saw this 3 weeks ago in Croatia - very similar and roughly same length (52 ft) but not identical

I dont have distance shots of my bro's on this laptop so can't post, only this one taken from Panama bridge on the clyde one evening

but yes, a total success story. Displacement boating can be lots of fun if you make the time, which he does
