I’ve had this response today (Tuesday 23rd June 2020) from the environment agency
Good morning Mr Carpenter,
Further to our correspondence regarding your report of an underwater obstruction between the tail of Romney Island and Black Potts Ait I can advise that myself and a colleague took a patrol launch up to the area yesterday afternoon. Despite searching using the vessels depth sounder we were unfortunately unable to locate an obstruction matching your description. The channel is quite narrow at that point as you know and the transition from this to the marked shoal is abrupt with the depth reducing from some 12-14 feet to less than 2 feet very rapidly.
We have concluded that whatever the obstruction may have been has now moved however of course should we receive additional reports we will investigate further.
Kind regards
Mike
