Hire boat death in the news.

This is the right section.. The Thames Forum, A place to discuss boating issues specific to the Thames and other inland waterways.

A very sad story. Sadly, things can go wrong on boating holidays.. mind you, look at the sad stories of falls from balconies and carbon monoxide poisonings affecting holidays abroad.

Very sad for the young girl who has lost her parents and another tragic event involving water. Newspapers reporting scenes of crime officers had been over the boat for a number of hours yesterday so I guess the full story hasn't come out yet.

All the water related deaths recently certainly make you realise how dangerous water can be. On the Broads most people wear lifejackets but it's very rare to see anyone with lifejackets on the other inland waterways.

I'm not aware that the police has released any details as the cause of the deaths, so we don't know that water was an issue. Yes, the bodies were found in the water, but there is nothing yet to suggest that there was a problem with the boat. It was tied to a tree, a strange thing to do on the Broads, as there is so much river/broadside mooring.

I have read a few comments on the internet and it amazes me how ignorant some are. No cause of death has been found yet. The poor child.:(

its reported that the Woman might have been strangled!!

and the Man ??

From the Police -

Home Office forensic post mortems which began this morning at the James Paget Hospital, showed that the woman had died before entering the water and is likely that the cause of death was strangulation. The man is believed to have died through drowning. His death is not being treated as suspicious.
