I've spent and hour or so reading and reminising about my cruise a few years ago.
Is the Rosie Swales you mention, the same one that set off on a circumnavigation many years ago with her husband and kids, on a dodgy trimaran? IIRC, she fell overboard in the middle of the night, mid-south Atlantic and at day break, her hubby followed the bubbles left by their wake and found her? A sort of modern day Hunzel & Gretle?
I thought she was on a catamaran but its a long time since I read the book and my memory isn't all it could be!
C.R.A.F.T. moments-- can't remember a f.......g thing!
hope you get back out there cruising soon, life's too short to waste...
Will be leaving SA on my new boat at the end of March next year. I'd go sooner, but the Indian Ocean cyclone is about to launch it's fury for the new season.
It's still a bit of a mess, but I am working through transfering all my cruising yarns onto a blog. I am about half-way there now and hope to have it complete within a few days. If you're interested, the first few months of my cruise, and some current thoughts can be seen on http://anecdotesfromstingo.blogspot.com

I have that book somewhere
But i saw this on ebay a couple of weeks ago and i thik the seller is one of the children selling it for his dad.
I have enjoyed reading your blog too; inspiring. So, the question, how did you cope with throwing away the comfort blanket of corporate life and life ashore? I have my own business and "when?" seems to be the biggest question that I'll have to address. Walking away from one's own business will, I believe, be very difficult. But as (I think) Stingo said above - life is too short to waste.....................hmmmmmmmmm
Well honestly the initial leaving was easy. The other half was looking for a new challenge and I capitalized on the fact that I had always wanted to do this.
To begin with we lived aboard part time. keeping the boat in Portugal with access to cheap flights so we could pop down often.
Once we made the BIG leap to a full time commitment everything just fell in to place.
We kept our home in the UK, really so the children could have a base, and as an insurance in case we didn't like what we`were about to do! Thats gone now!
In a way walking away is hard but 'touching the void' is a fabulous way to live. No crumbling away in to a staid old age for us.....One of the most common stories out here in the cruising community is that of the people who have left it too late, I am so glad we didn't!
The only regrets, wish we'd done it sooner and taken the kids along too. Well the kids bit maybe not!!!
Gerry,
I enjoyed the video but wondered if you need some special software to upload one. We use blogspot and sailblogs and would love to be able to capture a video for the family.
Thanks,
Normandie

Gerry,
Do you mean that the uncertainty has gone or the house?
We don't use any special software. We edit our videos on Movie Maker 2 which comes free with Windows XP Service Pack 2.
We upload them to YouTube.Com by following the instructions that you get when you click the Help button on the top right of the YouTube home page, then clicking the Uploading your Videos link under Your Videos (which even has an amusing spoof of a Borat-like character doing it). You then get given some code which you can copy and paste into your blog (select the HTML tag when you edit it). Note it can take up to an hour for your video to be accepted by YouTube. I wonder if someone has the job of viewing them all? I think there are also instructions on Blogger on how to do it. If all else fails type "how to upload YouTube videos to Blogger" into Google. I bet that will work.
