The Benyon Final Report has now been published and is proposing that some Marine Conservation Zones should now become Highly Protected Marine Areas.
Amongst many other things fishing and anchoring will be prohibited in these areas. The report is 130 pages long and takes some time to study. Many of the recommendations are sound and make good sense. There is a danger that some areas in which we have anchored for years may be included in the new HPMA’s before we have time to oppose them.
I find it difficult to understand the full implications but it would seem that for instance that a large part of the north coast of the Isle of Wight could be included in such an area.
I think this has passed us by in the current Covid 19 situation but we should be concerned that legislation may be proposed that is not in our best interests.

You can just google Highly protected marine areas and you will find the review and a summary.

Surely the RYA should pick this up and argue that anchoring of vessels up to say 24m long is likely to cause minimal damage , if any, so exclude them from this?
