High tide at Abingdon and Henley

Just watched the BBC lunchtime News & weather where they showed viewer photographs of the Thames at Henley and Abingdon with the comment that the river was looking very full because of the recent high tides!!

Oh dear...

There were high tides on the tidal Thames recently. They had to operate the barrier on Wednesday, the story even reached US websites.

This is obviously a case of 2+2=5...

I saw this too.

I commented to SWMBO if the tide was high enough to bother Abingdon, then boy, London was in real trouble.

If you walk across a bridge in central London at low water in the Summer you will usually hear someone commenting on the drought, too.

We viewed a property through a well known riverside estate agents with a 40ft mooring. It turned out to be a stream flowing into the Thames near Bell Weir and no more than 1ft deep. When I complained about wasting our time, the agent informed me that it was only a foot as the tide must have been out when we viewed it!
