You are going to need to spend more like £20k than £10k to buy a "tidy" boat. For this money you should be able to buy a 10 year old American cruiser, similar size to the Falcon, but not built to the same standards, and with less accommodation. Generally they are going to have the V8 yankie motors, and the fuel cons other posters have said are about right.
You might look at Neale's Bayliner. He has converted to diesel, which should be good for 5 gals per hour at mid 20's knots and next to nothing pootling up the river.
