Last week, one of the clubs I'm associated with presented me with 2 x rather lovely trophies.

They are solid silver and date back to 1880's.

Will they be insured by the club or do I have to add them to the house contents insurance? (If required I'll call the Club Secy, but would rather not, so is there a convention which exists regards insurance?)

I stress this is a highly unusual event in my sailing career!

Just an aside, to preserve the finish on trophies, rather than use an abrasive cleaner, the ideal would be Silver Dip. as rather a lot is needed to immerse a cup, make your own by making up a solution of washing soda and tear up pieces of aluminium foil and throw them in. Then immerse the pots and take coffee in the garden to get away from the stink...

Rob.

Thanks Rob, one of them is very ornate and SWIMBO did let me know that I'm on my own regards the polishing. Good tip!

I usually take the silverware hold it for a moment, allowing for the odd photo, then hand it back. Their risk, cleaning bill and my name on it :o

Many congratulations.
