hi ladz/lassies im looking for info as to the best type of anti fouling to use for my fjord cruiser(1985-7) if anyone can tell me how to find out exact year i'd appreciate that or where to find some sort of plate or hull plate etc.? anyway the anti fouling what type to use for the bottom of the boat i would appreciate it and if anyone knows a good how to guide for anti fouling better.( i am a novice and quite clever so i dare say i could pick it up) to boating . im at the start, i just passed my day skipper course so happy with that but ive got work to do on the ,not major work just a good clean inside and out plus anti fouling .then some other bit's and bobs. i hate to ask also but ive got a switch on my battery that says 1 - 2 or both what this used for and when would i use each of them? again thanks for help in advance. thanks alot john.
p.s and if anyone needs electrical advise im an Electrician so happy to help on that side if i can regards again.
 
Hi

The battery switch you mention is so that you can use the power of both batteries together for starting the engine. Then you can use 1 for all the low power things like lights and 2 the other for heavy duty stuff.. also you can charge each battery independently. someone else will tell you all about anti fouling. There are lots to choose from

My only advice from personal experience is to remove the masking tape as soon as possible. If not you will spend a lot of time trying to scrape it off wishing you had.
 
Or buy the blue stuff from B&Q. I left it on for nearly 2 weeks and it came of easily/cleanly and left a nice sharp edge to the antifoul.

You sound like you have 2 batteries- one will typically be a starting battery with a high current capability, the other a caravan type for domestic use (lights etc.). You should normally set it to 1 but set to both if you need extra oomph to start in winter etc. The domestic battery may not like to be used for starting depending on the type.

As for antifouling- I would use Cruiser Uno- This seems to work fine on my sport boat. Scrape any loose stuff of but no need to remove all the old stuff. You will get beter results on any bare GRP if you use a primer, but this is not absolutely necessary
 
Try to find out what antifoul is already on the boat. Some are incompatible with others and in such circumstances it is necessary to apply a barrier coat. If you can't find out the make, at least try and establish the type, particularly whether the existing is hard or soft.

I like this style of work not used to it but i really will give it my best, any special type of beer i should drink.
 
thanks alot lads i knew you wouldnt let me down.
i think ive got the pretty old tin of antifoul used on it so i will check it and see if it's ok to use uno over.
