Does anyone know where I can find out the frequencies and times to receive weather forcasts in southern Italy and the Ionians.
I have a HF receiver but I'm not geared up yet to receive Navtex or weatherfax to the PC.
I am in France at the moment where you can pickup the weather forcast in French and English on the VHF continuously all day for the entire south coast.
I am new to the HF receiver so any other useful frequencies to listen out on would be appreciated.

Set off Saturday and cant wait!

Andrew

Some stations are in McMillans but can't remember which and guess where the book is

Andrew,

The Med Cruisers Net operate on 8122 KHz at 05.30 UTC and they read out the German forecast (in English) for the whole of the Med. It's a 5 day forecast for spot locations and I find it very useful for passage planning.

Once you get near the Ionian there is an Italian forecast that runs continuously on VHF - I don't remember the channel but it's easy to find.

There's also a Monaco Radio forecast on 8728 KHz at 07.15 for much of the Med. I'm not sure whether its local time or UTC. It's in French first then English.

The forecasts that get announced on 2182 are normally between 0630 and 0840 UTC with updates at a similar time in the evening.

Good sailing,

Henry
